Fourteen additional islands to be developed as resorts

President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has said that 14 additional islands are up for bidding, to be developed as tourist resorts.

Prior to his departure to Sri Lanka, the President told reporters at the airport that efforts will be made during his visit to strengthen business relations between Maldives and Sri Lanka, which includes holding meetings with leading businessmen in Sri Lanka to discuss the development of 14 new tourist resorts.

The President is accompanied during this visit by Tourism Minister Ahmed Adheeb.

Several islands leased for resort development so far, have not been completed within the specified duration.
