Breakfast program to cover all schools by 2nd term

Though the pilot school breakfast program will begin the first term with only 25 schools, the program will be expanded to cover all schools by beginning of the second school term, says Minister of Education.

Speaking during the public forum on the pilot breakfast program last Sunday night, Minister Dr. Aishath Ali said the initial phase of the breakfast program was a tests round.

She also said that changes will be made to the 10 breakfast menus released for the program in light of public opinion. And pledged to prioritize the quality and safety of the food which will be served to school students even though it will be contracted to a private party.

Dr. Aishath Ali said the importance of a full and healthy breakfast for school students has been collaborated through numerous research conducted by the UNICEF, establishing the importance of the State’s school breakfast program.

State Minister for Education, Abdulla Rasheed, who also took part in Sunday’s public forum, said the program was multi-purpose. He said the purpose of the program wasn’t solely to provide school students will breakfast, but to teach them crucial social values.
