President revokes regulation on pardon and clemency for inmates

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has revoked the regulation on procedure for pardon and clemency to inmates due to its ineffectiveness, reports the President’s Office.

President’s Office published an announcement on the Government Gazette last Thursday which said the decision to revoke the regulation, formed under Article 29 of the Act on Pardon and Clemency, was taken due to the its ineffectiveness in meetings its purpose.

Act on Pardon and Clemency empowers the President to grant presidential pardons and clemency based criteria set by the law. It also empowers the Clemency Board to commute sentences of inmates.
