Police find stolen electronic devices and jewellery

Police have found several stolen electronic devices and jewellery, and arrested two people in relation to this crime.

The people arrested following this operation by the Serious and Organised Crime Department are two men aged 22 and 24.

The website of the Maldives Police Service (MPS) cited Deputy Head of Serious and Organised Crime Department, Inspector of Police Mohamed Daood, and said that the operations were carried out following reports of theft of jewellery worth more than MVR500,000 from a goldsmith located at M. Vaikaradhoo on 12 August, and theft of 12 laptops and five external hard disks from Villa Technology Office located at G. Green on 20 August.

Police said that the 22-year-old man was arrested last Wednesday in relation to the theft of jewellery, and that most of the stolen jewellery have been found hidden in his house. In addition, 46 rubber packets which are suspected to contain drugs were also found in his home.

The 24-year-old man was arrested yesterday in relation to the theft of the electronic devices from Villa Technology Office. The five hard disks and ten of the 12 laptops have been found since he was arrested.

Police said that the two cases are currently under investigation by MPS, while the case of the 46 rubber packets has been forwarded to the Drug Enforcement Department for investigation.
