Authorities intercept USD 1M drug shipment from Maldives to Hong Kong

Hong Kong authorities have intercepted a drug shipment worth USD 1 million in street money from Maldives to Hong Kong.

The shipment was intercepted at the Hong Kong airport.

South China Morning Post reports HK authorities have arrested three suspects in connection with the case; a 21-year-old man, a 23-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman – all from Hong Kong.

The newspaper reports the three suspects were offered an all-expense paid holiday in Maldives in exchange for transporting the drugs.

HK police reported to the newspapers they found 16 bags of cocaine hidden inside the briefcases carried by the suspects.

The cocaine confiscated weighed 7 kilos and is worth USD 1 million in street value.

Hong Kong has stringent penalties for drug trafficking; life imprisonment and USD 5 million in fines.
