VP gets tested for HIV, launches AIDS Day campaign

Vice President Faisal Naseem has launched the “Know Your Status” HIV testing campaign by taking the test himself.

The “Know Your Status” campaign was launched at the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital on occasion of World AIDS Day this Tuesday.

Speaking at the ceremony, Faisal Naseem stressed the importance of testing for HIV. He said that knowing one’s status was essential to implementing successful and systematic prevention programs.

He also announced the administration’s plans to establish a multi-sectoral coordination mechanism to harmonize existing mechanisms, and to steer and oversee HIV prevention programs.

Faisal Naseem also pointed out the need for involvement of civil society and community based organizations in the AIDS prevention process, and stressed the need for increased funding to support civil society organizations in this cause.
