New member appointed to corruption commission

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has appointed Aminath Hassan to replace Hana Waheed who resigned from the Commission on Corruption and Asset Recovery.

Attorney Hana resigned from the presidential commission citing “grounds to claim conflict of interest”.

Aminath Hassan was appointed to the commission to replace Hana by special decree last Monday.

Aminath Hassan served as a member of Maldives Media Council (MMC) during its third term, after getting elected to the council as a member of public.

Commission on Corruption and Asset Recovery:

  • Ahmed Assad, President
  • Aas Abdulla
  • Nadheem Ibrahim
  • Fathimath Sareera Ali Shareef
  • Aminath Hassan

President Solih has also formed a Commission on Investigation of Murders and Enforced Disappearances.

The government has submitted a sunset provision to empower the two presidential commissions. Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) parliamentarians protested against the Bill last Monday and prevented the Bill from being called to vote for consideration.
