Former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom submitted his financial statement on the last day of his presidency, says Auditor General Hassan Ziyath.
Ziyath was summoned to a meeting with the Budget Evaluation Committee of Parliament this Wednesday.
He made the statement in response to a questioned posed by member of the committee, North Galolhu MP Eva Abdulla.
Ziyath said Yameen submitted his financial statement to the Auditor General’s Office on the last day of presidency.
Yameen’s presidency ended and President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih assumed office on November 17.
Ziyath went on to say that none of the members of Yameen’s Cabinet have submitted their financial statements.
He also said the AG’s Office has shared information to Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) regarding an investigation it is conducting into Yameen’s financial statement.
ACC recently announced Yameen has returned the USD 1 million in his account allegedly connected with the MMPRC embezzlement scandal. The commission announced the money is in an account under its authority.
