The newly elected Speaker of the Parliament, MP for the Maamigili constituency and the Leader of the Jumhoory Party, Qasim Ibrahim, has said that he would be working within the law.
Talking to the press after being elected tonight, Qasim said that he would be working with integrity, for the people of the country. And said that he would not work in a way that would make the people worry.
Qasim expressed his gratitude to all the MPs for electing him as the new Speaker of the Parliament and the Leaders of the Opposition Coalition.
t the special sitting of the Parliament held tonight, Qasim was elected with the anonymous vote of 62 MPs of the 80 MPs present. The other nominee for the position was the MP for Fonadhoo constituency, Abdul Raheem Abdulla, who was 16 votes.
Aside from being the MP for Maamigili constituency, Qasim Ibrhaim has served as the Speaker of the Parliament from 2004 to 2008.
