Complaint over the failure of Sea Life Global to reimburse tenants for down payment the company took for its planned apartment complex, SeaLife Complex, in Hulhumale’ has been sent to the authorities for investigation.

Sea Life took MVR 50,000 from tenants as down payment. But construction of the apartment complex has remained suspended.

A case has been filed by a legal team headed by former attorney at the Attorney General’s Office, Mariyam Shunana with both the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and Maldives Police Service for investigation into the scheme for possible corruption.

Shunana said she filed the case on behalf of 146 victims of the scheme.

Shunana said the team is also preparing to file a class action lawsuit against Sea Life with the Civil Court.

Sea Life announced its scheme for the 3,000-apartment complex in Hulhumale’ in 2015.

280 tenants paid the booking fee, some paying more than the minimum MVR 50,000.
