Independence Day reception scheduled for Wednesday evening

The official reception hosted by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim to mark the country’s 53rd Independence Day will be held at Dharubaaruge this Wednesday evening, says the President’s Office.

State officials and foreign dignitaries station in Maldives have been invited to attend the reception, which is being held on the eve of the Maldivian Indepencence Day, July 26.

Unlike previous years, no Head of State of a foreign country has arrived in Maldives to attend the event.

The official function to mark Independence Day will be held at Republic Square on Thursday evening.

5 people will receive the National Award of Honor, 15 people will receive the National Award of Recognition and 24 people will receive the National Award for Special Achievement at the Independence Day function.
