It was never decided not to cooperate with Raajje TV: President

The President’s Office has refuted Raajje TV’s claims that it had decided not to cooperate with Raajje TV.

Spokesperson of the President’s Office Abbas Adil Riza said today that the President’s Office will provide information, as required by the Constitution, to any group that requests for information.

“If there is an event such as a press conference, our press office will contact media operators. It could have been an accident, if one media operator was omitted – but as a policy we have not made any decision to exclude any media operators,” Abbas said.

He added that rumors spread as a result of incorrect interpretations of discussions between the two parties.

Deputy CEO of Raajje TV Abdullah Yameen said today that the President’s Office had not officially decided not to cooperate with Raajje TV; however, they failed to inform Raajje TV of the press conference by President Dr Mohamed Waheed at the official jetty prior to his departure to Saudi Arabia.

Moreover, the Media Secretary of the President’s Office Masood Imad, when contacted by Raajje TV News Team, had said that it had been decided not to cooperate with Raajje TV and to exclude Raajje TV from the list of invitees to press conferences held by the President’s Office.

“We are willing to cooperate with the government and the President’s Office. Our role is that of independent media,” Yameen said.

It has not yet been possible to contact the Media Secretary of the President’s Office Masood Imad in relation to this matter.
