Maafannu Dhekunu MP Ibrahim Rasheed (Bondey) has accused the Police of ‘attempting to murder him’ and requested the Prosecutor General’s (PG) Office to investigate this case.
In his letter to PG, the MDP Parliamentary Group Member accuses President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik and the Commissioner of Police of scheming to murder him.
He said that he had been injured by the Police several times, and that those attacks were deliberate attempts to murder him.
As an example, he noted that a Police team intentionally targeted attacks on his backbone on 30 July.
He also accused the Police of disregarding the regulations of the Parliament when they attacked him, and pointed out that the Police did not inform the Speaker of Parliament of his arrest.
Police Media Official Hassan Haneef said in relation to Rasheed’s letter that the Police would never violate the laws and regulations when taking people under arrest. He also denied rumours that Rasheed was bitten by a Police officer.
He said that the Maldives Police Service welcomes Rasheed’s letter to the PG Office requesting for the investigation of these accusations.
