DRP will not makeunrealistic claims just to win elections: Thasmeen

Leader of Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) Ahmed Thasmeen Ali has said that DRP will not make unrealistic claims just to win the election.

Speaking at a function held at Imaaduddeen School last night, Thasmeen said that DRP will be clear about things which are possible and impossible to implement, and that it will not mislead the public.

“I believe that you can only gain public confidence by being straightforward with the public.

Even if it’s difficult to accept sometimes, people would rather know the truth. People trust parties which are sincere. God willing, our party will always be honest and sincere,” he said.

He said that democratic values have still not been implemented in the Maldives because the first democratically–elected president was not sincere in his efforts to establish democracy in the country, and did not respect democratic principles.

“In order to strengthen democracy, politicians have to be sincere. We have to give an honest and realistic picture to the public, about what can and cannot be implemented.”
