Following the advice of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Steering Committee, MDP presidential candidate Mohamed Nasheed has decided to halt the Direct Action protests until the end of Ramadan.
MDP said that this decision was made as the final ten days of Ramadan should be spent in prayers, and also to allow the resumption of all-party-talks.
Journalists, MNDF officers, and Police officers have been harmed, and private and State property have been damaged at these protests.
MDP commenced Direct Action protests on 8 July, to call for an early election and to demonstrate against Police brutality.
