Eight police officers in custody connected to attempted coup

Sun Media has learned that eight officers of the Maldives Police Service were arrested in connection to an attempt to overthrow the government of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. 

The officers in custody include those working in Special Operations (SO) of the police along with the former Head of S.W.A.T., Hussain Saif.

While the police are investigating further, all eight officers have now been fired from the institution. 

The former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, the Chief Justice, Abdulla Saeed and the the Supreme Court Judge, Ali Hameed Mohamed along with many others have been arrested in connection to the attempted Coup d'état.
