A number of employees working for Mega Maldives has filed a civil suit to reclaim the portion reduced from their wager after the company's profits plummeted.

The first international airline in the Maldives, Mega Maldives, stopped their flight operation last May due to financial trouble. And along with unpaid leave to the staff, the company sent back all the planes they were using in the operation.

While the company is liquidating it's assets, today, four of their employees have filed a suit at the Civil Court today to claim the money owed to them.

The lawyer representing them, Abdulla Ali, told Sun Media that four employees filed suit to reclaim the 13 percent deducted from their salaries from February to April 2017 along with the salary for the month of May in 2017 which was never given out.

Lawyer Abdulla Ali said that while the company is being liquidated, the employees have no been dismissed. He said said that when a company is liquidated and their employees lose their jobs, they must be given a prior severance notice.

Abdulla Ali said that the case of the four employees were filed to claim a return of USD 1000 - 2000 for each employee. And they have requested the court to claim the severance as well.

According to Lawyer Abdulla Ali, about 60 employees of Mega Maldives have decided to go to the court in the salary issue.

Some of the employees of Mega Maldives told Sun Media that the company has put an end to their health insurance at the beginning of this year. They said that when they were sent on a no-pay leave in May 2017, about 40 employees remained in the company in hopes of resuming services of the company with a new investor.

As the liquidation procedure is underway, Mega Maldives have said that they would pay the owned amounts to their employees and the state.

However the employees of the company remain uncertain.

Mega Maldives has said that they have no money, according to one employee, and raised concerns saying that they no longer believe that the company have any plans to pay their employees.

While Mega Maldives is facing a civil suit from it's own employees, another private company has recently filed a civil suit against the company for over USD 200,000.
