Attorney Hussain Shameem, a member of former Maldivian President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s legal team, has been sent summons by police for questioning.
The police have asked Shameem to present himself at the police headquarters at 8 pm, this Thursday.
Shameem was sent summons for investigation into charges he spread false information regarding evidence obtained by the police during a press conference on Tuesday, February 13.
During Tuesday’s press conference, Shameem challenged the police’s claim it seized a black box containing evidence on the recent coup attempt during the raid on Najma Ibrahim’s residence. Najma Ibrahim is an employee at Maumoon’s office.
He said the attorneys have not been provided papers regarding a black box seized as evidence from Najma’s residence.
“If they found any evidence from the box, then it was planted there by the police. Because the records provided by the police don’t show they found anything from any box,” said Shameem.
Shameem, a former deputy prosecutor general, is also a member of Maumoon’s son – Dhiggaru MP Ahmed Faris Maumoon – and Maumoon’s son-in-law Mohamed Nadheem’s legal team.
