Najma Ibrahim, an employee at former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s Office who was arrested last Wednesday as a suspect in bribery of parliamentarians to overthrow the current administration, has been transferred from detention to house arrest.
Najma was transferred to house arrest in the early hours of this Thursday, following a petition by her attorney requesting the transfer as she has an eight-month-old child who she breastfeeds.
The warrant for her arrest states she is suspected of conspiring with a group of parliamentarians to unlawfully overthrow the country’s legitimate government.
The police also conducted a search on her residence, M. Wisteria, last Wednesday night and confiscated a mobile phone and a head scarf as evidence.
