Young man hit by dinghy dies

A young man has died in Raa atoll Maakurathu after being run over by a dinghy.

The victim of this collision is 19-year-old Abdul Aziz Hassan.

President of the Maakurathu Island Council, Hassan Ali told Sun Media that the young man was snokeling in the island lagoon and came up for air when he was hit by a dinghy passing by and was in critical condition.

The Council President said that when Aziz was taken to the Maakurathu Health Center, the doctors advised immediate transfer to the Raa atoll Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital.

He said that the Ungoofaaru doctors said that Aziz has passed away.

Maldives Police Service said that they have recevied reports that a 19-year-old male was found dead under water inthe Maakurathu lagoon and the Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital has confirmed the death to the police.

Police are investigating the incident further.
