Eight men, two minors arrested with large quantity of drugs

Eight men along with two minors have been arrested following a search of a two residences in Male' City under suspicion of drug trade.

Maldives Police Service said that they were arrested during two operations on 10 and 12 of this January by the Drug Enforcement Department.

And so a residence in Henveiru was searched under a court order on the first operation where two minors along with two 18-year-olds, two 19-year-olds and a 21-year-old man were arrested.

Police found 20 film cansters, 66 cellophane pieces, a big piece of rubber, a pieces of cloth and tissue containing suspected drugs along with cannabis seeds at the residence.

The second operation was conducted at a residence in Galolhu where three men of the ages, 25, 28 and 33. Police also found a large rubber packet and four film canisters of suspected drugs along with a knife and a scissor with traces of suspected drugs. Police also found over MVR 10,600 in cash.

Drug Enforcement Department is investigating further.
