AG: 45 bills will be submitted to the parliament this year

Attorney General, Mohamed Anil, has said that 45 bills will be presented to the Parliament this year.

Speaking on TVM's "Rajje Miadhu" program on Wednesday night, the Attorney General said that the Constitution is a foundation and the government intends to build the columns it requires to build up.

He said that although the current Constitution was formed in 2008, the columns it required did not come in the days that followed. And now, the current government is building those columns with a long-term plan.

The columns mentions by the Attorney General are the laws that needed to be made under the new Constitutions and amending the previous laws to fit into the Constitution.

Anil said that the current government has abolished the laws that violated the Constitution and amended articles to align the laws with the Constitution.

He said that the government's legislative agenda has about 200 bills and about 160 bills have been presented to the government and passed into laws.

After the parliament election in 2014, Anil said that a number of bills were being passed but the bills passed last year were fewer due to political conflicts.

Anil said that while the Penal Code was passed last year, a Juvenile Justice bill will be presented this year. And a bill on Civil Justice is being drafted as well.

The Attorney General said that a bill on insurance and real-estate will also be presented to improve the industries.
