MTCC: Land reclaimation for Funadhoo Airport should start next week

The land reclamation phase for the development of an airport in Shaviyani Funadhoo should be able to start within the next week according to the contractor of the project, Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

General Manager of MTCC, Mohamed Husham told Sun Media today that they are now preparing to start the project and the company's dredging vessel, “Mahajaffaar", will arrive at the island next week.

Husham said taht MTCC has enclosed the site completely for the project and has finished all preparations to receive the dredging vessel.

Sources have told Sun Media that the Funadhoo Airport Project will be inaugurated by the President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom on a visit to the island next week.

The newly brought in dredging vessel “Mahajaffaar" has recently completed it's first land reclaimation project at Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi.

Funadhoo Airport Project is funded by the state budget for 2018.
