The fire started at the warehouse of the Waste Management Center at Lhaviyani Hinnavaru has been extinguished.
The fire was extinguished by efforts of the police officers in Hinnavaru. The fire started around 1:30 p.m. today.
MNDF said that the fire was extinguished around 2:30 p.m. and the warehouse contained 80 plastic dustbins and a black jerrycan.
The fire at the warehouse of Waste Management Center operated by FENAKA Corporation destroyed all the goods inside.
President of the Hinnavaru Island Council, Abdulla Ibrahim said that the warehouse contained some goods used at the dumpsite and contains no valuables.
The Council President said that the fire had a small chance of spreading since the dumpsite has not become operational yet. He said that so far there have been no injuries reported in relation to the fire.
The Media Officer of MNDF said that the fire was initially reported around 1:45 p.m. and the police have responded to the scene.
A man from Hinnavaru said that rumors in the island suggest that the fire started while children were playing in the area.
