Former Speaker of the Parliament, Abdulla Shahid has said that he has not made a decision to run in the MDP primaries for the 2018 Presidential Election and he would always stand behind the former President, Mohamed Nasheed.
Refuting the report on Mihaaru News, Shaahid tweeted that he is not competing against President Nasheed and that he his firmly with MDP.
Shahid said that a group of people have started baseless rumoring to create conflict within MDP but their efforts will fail.
While Shahid has made the remarks, MDP is set to hold the primaries in May. Making the announcement, Chairperson of MDP, Hassan Latheef said that the party wants President Nasheed as their candidate. But the party believes in democracy and so it will allow anyone to run in the primaries for the MDP ticket for the Presidential Election.
Former President, Mohamed Nasheed is currently in self-exile in UK after going abroad on a medical visit while serving 13 years in prison for his involvement as the President in the unlawful arrest of the Chief Judge of the Criminal Court.
