5 charged in death of Sama, Haameen

Five people have been charged in connection with the unexpected deaths of Ahmed Haameen, 21, and Fathmath Sama, 18, in Hulhumale’ in September.

An official from the Prosecutor General’s Office reported the charges were pressed and the case filed with the Criminal Court last Thursday.

The accused are:

- Hassan Zidhan

- Adham Shaheen

- Ahmed Ameen

- Mariyam Maisha

- Mariyam Afaa

The five people have been charged under Article 618 of the Penal Code, for failing to provide assistance to a person in need without sufficient reason.

It is a third level crime with a minimum one-month 6-day prison sentence.

Zidhan has also been charged with providing false information.

Sama and Haameen passed away unexpectedly on September 27 amid a birthday celebration. Police reported they recovered party pills from the scene.
