4 arrested with large quantity of liquor from safari

Four people have been arrested with a large quantity of liquor illegally kept at a safari docked near Hulhumale’.

Police report the cases of liquor and beer were seized in an operation last Thursday.

The authority says it seized 87 cases of different brands of liquor and 47 cases of beer from the safari. They also seized 25 separate liquor bottles, 20 beer bottles and 46 beer cans.

The police say they raided the safari under court order, and that the alcohol was kept illegally.

Three Bangladesh citizens and a 29-year-old Maldivian citizen was arrested during the raid, says the police. The police also report officers found seven liquor bottles inside a bag one of the suspects was carrying.

The suspects have been remanded to five days in police custody.

The case is under investigation by the police.
