President appeals to consider 3 things before voting

The people must check for three things from politicians who ask for their vote including the character and background, says President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

President Yameen made the appeal during his speech after inaugurating the USAID-funded water supply system in Lh. Hinnavaru, this Monday morning.

The three things the President asked the people to consider are:

1. THE BACKGROUND AND CHARACTER OF THE PERSON

President Yameen said in his speech that Maldivian politicians were not foreigners, and that they were fellow Maldivians who grew up in Maldivian islands. He said everyone had a history and a background.

“We are not aliens from some other planet. So it will be very easy look into the background. It’s very easy to look into anyone’s past,” said President Yameen.

He said that if Maldives wanted to remain an Islamic nation, it eliminated multiple current Maldivian politicians from the equation.

2. REMAINING TRUE TO HIS WORD

President Yameen said politicians were well-versed in the art of speaking, and apt at big talk and fancy phrases.

He said that anyone who failed to consider the needs of the people, but were all about spinning unreachable dreams needed to be taken out of the equation.

“Someone said this or that… If even President Yameen talks about going into space, travelling the galaxy; then President Yameen is not right in the head. At this point, the decision needs to be made that he has gone mad beyond hope of recovery,” said President Yameen.

3. ABILITY TO FOLLOW THROUGH ON PROMISES

President Yameen said it was very important to consider whether the specific politician has the ability to follow through on his promise.

“It needs to be considered whether the person has the experience, knowledge or skill to implement his promises. These are three very basic things,” said President Yameen.

He said that knowledgeable or experienced the politician may be, how well they understand the problems facing ordinary people can only be analyzed through their statements and past behavior.

“So these are three very basic things. If even one of these fails to check out, then believe me such a leader is not for us,” said President Yameen.
