President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has inaugurated the mosque funded by the Saudi Arabian government in N. Maalhendhoo.
President Yameen inaugurated Masjid-ul-Taqwa during his visit to Maalhendhoo this Sunday.
The mosque was built using MVR 5 million in non-reimbursable financial aid by the government of Saudi Arabia.
Construction of the mosque – which can accommodate up to 500 worshippers at a time – was completed in June, this year.
Maalhendhoo has a population of approximately 900 people.
In addition to inaugurating the Saudi-funded mosque, the President also inaugurated the MVR 6 million harbor in the island.
N. Maalhendhoo was the first stop in the President’s three-day tour of islands in the N. Atoll, B. Atoll, and Lh. Hinnavaru.
