President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has inaugurated the project to develop a sewerage system in N. Hen’badhoo.
The President was warmly welcomed upon his arrival to Hen’badhoo for the inauguration this Sunday.
The project has been contracted to Hitech Maldives Private Limited and is funded by Champa Mohamed Moosa (U’chu)’s company Champa Brothers.
U’chu, along with Minister of Environment Toriq Ibrahim and leader of Maldives Development Alliance (MDA), Ahmed Siyam Mohamed was in attendance at the inauguration.
At the inauguration, President Yameen gave special thanks to U’chu and Champa Hussain Afeef. He said that though the government had allocated funds to build a harbor in the island, U’chu had insisted that he personally fund the sewerage project.
Ministry of Environment reports the sewerage project will involve building a pump station and installing pipelines so sewerage services are available to every household in the island.
President Yameen is currently on a three-day tour of islands in N. Atoll, B. Atoll and Lh. Hinnavaru. He is accompanied of the tour by senior State officials and MPs.
