President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has inaugurated the newly constructed harbor at B. Maalhendhoo.
President Yameen inaugurated the Maalhendhoo Harbor this Sunday morning, during his current tour of three northern atolls; N. Atoll, Lh. Atoll and B. Atoll.
N. Maalhendhoo – with its population of 900 people - was the President’s first stop during his current tour. He was escorted on his trip to the island by leader of Maldives Development Alliance (MDA), Ahmed Siyam Mohamed.
The Maalhendhoo Harbor which was inaugurated this Sunday spans 800 feet in length and 250 feet in width. It was constructed at the cost of MVR 26 million by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
MTCC says the harbor is modern with a seawall, paved floor and lighting fixtures.
Construction of the harbor project began in January, 2016 and was completed earlier this month.
President, during his visit to Maalhendhoo, is also scheduled to inaugurate a mosque built with aid from the Saudi Arabian government in the island and meet with the locals.
