President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s administration has spent MVR 1.6 billion on construction of harbors, says Minister of Housing and Construction, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
Muizzu tweeted this Sunday morning that the current administration spent MVR 1.6 billion on construction of 47 harbors since it came to office.
He also provided a breakdown of the expenditure in his tweet.
He said MVR 284 million was spent to build nine harbors in 2014; MVR 315 million was spent to build nine harbors in 2015; MVR 402 million was spent to build 12 harbors in 2016; and MVR 614 million has been spent so far this year on 17 harbors.

He said that an additional MVR 900 million will go into construction of 31 harbors currently in progress.
Overall, said Muizzu, the current administration would have spent MVR 2.5 billion to construct 78 harbors by the end of its first term.
Muizzu tweeted that construction of harbors was a top priority of the current administration.
MVR 2.7 billion has been allocated in the projected State budget for 2018 to build 75 harbors.
