Police has launched investigation into complaints idols were kept at a Maldivian resort, which were removed before the police arrived.
“Sun” has been informed the idols, made from clay, were kept at the Four Seasons Kuda Huraa.
Pictures of the idols allegedly kept at the resort have been circulating in social media networks.
The pictures show at least six idols kept on both sides of the resort’s dock.
Police media official confirmed it received complaints over idols kept at a resort, but said the idols were removed when the police arrived. The police refused too confirm the resort in question is the Four Seasons Kuda Huraa.
Import and use of idols is forbidden by law in Maldives.
The controversial decision in 2011, during former President Mohamed Nasheed’s administration to use statues for the SAARC Summit in Addu City led to countrywide protest. The idol was later removed.
