A dinghy carrying three people from G. Dh. Gadhdhoo to a ship near G. Dh. Vaadhoo has capsized.
Maldives National Defense Force’s information officer, Captain Ibrahim Azim reports the dinghy capsized near G. Dh. Madihaa after it got caught in a strong current.
He said all three people – all Maldivian citizens - on board the dinghy are safe.
“The dinghy travelling from G. Dh. Gadhdhoo to G. Dh. Vaadhoo was reported missing to the Coastguard at 5:30 am this Saturday. MNDF’s Coastguard immediately launched efforts to rescue the three people onboard. A sea ambulance and helicopter were kept on standby to join the operation,” said Azim.
Coastguard received information the three people were located at approximately 8: 10 am, said Azim.
“The dinghy capsized as it was entering Madihaa. They said it got caught in a current. The three people are all safe and well.”
