President: Deal with Malaysia will boost opportunities for Maldivian students

The Memorandum of Understanding signed between Maldives and Malaysia on cooperation in the field of higher education will provide more opportunities for Maldivian students from Malaysia, says President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

Four key agreements have been signed between Maldives and Malaysia during Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak’s current visit to Maldives.

The MoU for cooperation in the field of higher education was signed in a function held this Wednesday at the President’s Office by Maldivian Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Shiham and Malaysian Minister of Higher Education Baro’ Seri Idris Bin Jusoh.

In the joint press statement issued by the leaders of both countries after signing the MoUs, they PM Razak said there were currently 1,700 Maldivian students currently studying in Malaysia, and that the new agreement will increase the number.

Razak also said the Malaysian government will aid the Maldives in human resource development, and that Maldivian civil servants will be provided short-term training in Malaysia.
