Housing: Construction of Maajeedhee Magu not complete yet

Work on Majeedhee Magu – part of the government’s project to construct and repair all the streets of Male’ City – is not complete yet, says Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure.

Ahmed Fazaal, the ministry’s media consultant on the construction of Majeedhee Magu reported to “Sun” that “the work on Majeedhee Magu is not complete” and that “the media will be informed when the work is complete.”

Construction and repair of the streets is carried out by Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure’s Public Work Service. Construction work on Majeedhee Magu is being carried out section by section, and work on the last section is nearly complete.

Construction and repair work on the streets include leveling the ground and enlarging the drains installing larger drain pipes – mainly to solve the issue of flooding during rainy weather. The pavements have also been re-designed for the convenience of pedestrians with physical disabilities.

Construction of Majeedhee Magu began in September, 2016. Funds have been allocated in the State budget for repair work on more streets. Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure reported earlier that the Boduthakurufaanu Magu will be re-constructed using asphalt.
