Umaru: No corruption allegations against me in the Audit Report

Former Home Minister, Umaru Naseer, has said that there are no allegations of corruption against him in the recently released Audit Report of the Home Ministry in 2015.

Umaru told Sun Media today that he had not been involved in corruption during the preparations or the 50th Independence Day celebrations or at any other time.

"Audit Report does not have my name. I assure that I'm not involved in any corruption." Umaru said.

The former Home Minister said that the Independence Day preparations went through a special committee established by the President. Including the Home Minister, the committee had the Finance Minister, Defence Minister, Foreign Minister and the Youth Minister along with the Minister at the President's Office.

He said that during the course of the work at the Committee, members from the Auditor General's Office and the Anti-Corruption Commission were present and if there was any illegal activity, they would've brought it to light then.

Umaru said that reporting on something today that they did not see back then implies that that it was poor work from the observers back then.

Home Minister Audit Report 2015 says that over MVR 66 million for the 50th Independence Day celebrations were spent in violation of the economic guideline and the permit from the Finance Ministry.
