The Chinese government has provided firm reassurance the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge under construction between Male’ City and Hulhule’ will be completed within the scheduled time, says Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

Muizzu said the reassurance was provided during President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s recent State visit to China.

He made the statement in a tweet from his official Twitter account last Saturday evening.

“China provided reassurance the CMFB will be completed and handed over to the Maldivian government within the scheduled time,” tweeted Muizzu.

The bridge is contracted to Chinese company CCCC Second Harbor Engineering Company. The company stated in November that 67 percent of the construction work was now complete.

The bridge is scheduled to be opened on July 26, 2018.

The China-Maldives Friendship Bridge is worth USD 300 million; USD 100 million of which is funded by the Chinese government as non-reimbursable financial aid, USD 170 million through a two percent interest loan by China, and USD 30 million by the Maldivian government.
