President and First Lady arrive in China on State Visit

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and First Lady Madam Fathimath Ibrahim have arrived in Beijing, on a state visit to China.

On four-day visit upon the invitation from the Chinese President Xi Jinping, President Yameen is set to hold official talks with the Chinese Government and key agreements will be signed to enhance trade, professional and socioeconomic developments along with technological and other collaborations between the two countries.

The President will also meet with key leaders of China and discuss ways to further accelerate socioeconomic ties between China and the Maldives.

This is the first State Visit to China since President Yameen was elected. The President has made two visits to China in 2014 and 2015.

Chinese President, Xi Jinping has made two State Visits to the Maldives. His first visit was the first time a Chinese President visited the country.

Maldives established diplomatic relations with China in 1972.
