Ex-employee sentenced to 7 months for stealing from court

A former employee at Civil Court has been sentenced to seven months and seven days in prison for stealing from the court.

The sentence was meted out against Abdulla Inaz from M. Sandyhall at Male’ City for a robbery which took place at approximately 9:46 pm on December 22.

The Criminal Court ruled that Inaz – who was an administrative officer at Civil Court at the time – has confessed to stealing a laptop and laptop charger from the office.

Inaz was charged under the old Penal Code, but his sentence was reduced under the new Penal Code – as dictated in Article 59 of the Constitution.
