Director of MRDC Shafaau dismissed less than a month into appointment

The Managing Director of Maldives Road Development Corporation (MRDC), Mohamed Shafaau Hassan has been dismissed with less than a month since his appointment to the position.

President of the Privatization Board, Mohamed Nizar has confirmed the dismissal as well.

Shifaau was appointed as the Managing Director of MRDC on 7 November 2017.

The MRDC was formed during the Presidency of Mohamed Nasheed to develop and repair the roads in the country. During the Nasheed Presidency, only one person held the position of the Managing Director of MRDC.

After that, President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik appointed Ibrahim Nazeem to the position.

When the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) brought up allegations of corruption against Nazeem was dismissed from the position and appointed as a State Minister at the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure.

And Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem was appointed as the Managing Director of MRDC. After his dismissal, the former Managing Director of FENAKA Corporation was appointed to MRDC. The Deputy Managing Director of MRDC, Ahmed Mamdhooh was the acting Managing Director before Shafaau was appointed to the position.
