Supreme Court supports 12 year sentence against Imran

Supreme Court has ruled that the 12-year prison sentence passed by the Criminal Court against the President of Adhaalath Party, Sheikh Ibrahim Abdulla was a valid ruling and denied an appeal.

Sheikh Imran was sentenced to 12 years in prison on 16 February 2016. The sentenced was supported by the High Court in the appeal process on 23 April 2016.

The Adhaalath Party President was convicted of terrorism for instigating violence through his speech at the May Day rally of 2015.

In the response document sent to the Sheikh Imran's lawyers by the Registrar of the Supreme Court for the appeal, the Supreme Court has decided that there are no factors to deem the High Court ruling invalid.
