President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom says he receives a lot of messages from the people sharing their various grievances, and asked that they make their texts short and to the point.
Yameen made the request during the closing ceremony of First Lady Fathimath ibrahim’s women’s symposium “Kanbalunge Mahaasithaa” last Saturday night.
Yameen said he received multiple messages via social media applications from the people each day, and said he responded to a lot of those messages. He requested that the messages be made short and clear so that it would be easier for him to respond.
“If you want me to respond to the messages, make it short like an SMS. It will not be possible for me to read the whole thing if it’s so long it takes up two phone screens. Because I receive a lot of messages. One thing is effectiveness. The message you send needs to be effective. The message needs to be short that it creates an impact for the person reading the message,” said Yameen.
He also requested that documents sent by State institutions asking for his approval or opinion also be made short and to the point.
Yameen said he hoped the participants of the symposium learned about effective messaging.
“I receive volumes of books regarding certain issues. I want to say to certain people that I am no longer a university student and don’t wish to read books. I want the issue to be presented to me very short, summarized, so that it can grab by attention and extract an opinion from me.”
