Education Minister, Dr. Aishath Shiham has inaugurated the Hathaa Code Lab at Majeedhiyya School last night.
Speaking at the press conference following the inauguration, Ufaa Program's Fathimath Sofiya Rasheed said that everyone above the age of 15 can apply to the coding courses.
She said that the courses will be conducted online and they are in talks with two world famous institutes, NEXT Academy and Udacity, to join the program.
Sofiya said that students taking part in the courses will be eligible for the loan scheme by Higher Education. She said by the end of the courses, that students will acquire the necessary skills through the courses to take positions in coding-related jobs. And even if the applicants do not have the qualifications, they would be given training programs to take part in the courses.
She said that in an effort to promote coding skills in the country, a Hackathon is being set for next month. And a coding club would be created for students of grade 7 and above starting next year.
