Vessel transporting people to President's Meedhoo function crashes on reef

A vessel carrying people from Raa Innamaadhoo to Meedhoo for the function attended by the President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, has crashed on to a reef.

The vessel traveling with 22 people crashed on a reef near Meedhoo. The people on board were rescued quickly and taken to Meedhoo unharmed.

MNDF said that there were 12 women and nine men along with a child on board the vessel at the time of the incident.

President of the Innamaadhoo Island Council, Moosa Niyaz told Sun Media tonight that the incident took place while transporting people to the government event in Meedhoo tonight.

The Vice President of the the Innamaadhoo Island Council, HUssain Areef said the vessel is completely on the reef and efforts are being made to save the vessel with the help of the Coastguard.

MNDF said that the incident was reported around 7:45 p.m. tonight.
