The Parliament has passed a budget of MVR 26 million to hold the by-elections for the vacated seats at the parliament.
Elections Commission has declared six constituencies as vacant. They are those of the MP for Villingili constituency, Saud Hussain, MP for Thulusdhoo constituency, Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim (Lawyer Wadde), MP for Maduvvari consituency, Mohamed Ameeth, MP for Dhiddhoo constituency Abdul Latheef Mohamed and the MP for South Mahchangolhi constituency, Abdulla Shinan and the MP for Dhangethi constituency, Il'ham Ahmed.
Minister of Finance and Treasury, Ahmed Munawar proposed a supplementary budget of MVR 493 million to the parliament today.
Out of which MVR 26 million is allocated for the parliament by-elections, MVR 330 million for uninterrupted medical services, MVR 40 million for the Kaadehdhoo Airport after the state took custody of the airport, MVR 70 million for the school digitization project and MVR 27 million for other purposes.
Speaking at the Parliament today, the Finance Minister said that the Supplementary Budget will raise the total annual state budget to MVR 27.3 billion.
Minister Munawar said that an amendment has been proposed to the revenue stamp and tax law to increase state revenue.
While the Speaker of the Parliament, Abdulla Maseeh announced that the Supplementary Budget will be up for debate tomorrow, the committee meeting today will decide the duration of the debate.
