The police officer who drowned to death while out swimming in an uninhabited island near G. A. Vilingili last Wednesday has been buried in his home-island K. Kaashidhoo.
Police Constable Mohamed Haneef, 32, was swimming with his wife in the uninhabited island G. A. Raivereha when he got swept away by a current.
His wife reported in interviews to some media sources that Haneef told her “something was happening” to him as he got swept away by the current.
His body was found two hours after he went missing.
Haneef’s body was buried at dawn this Thursday at the cemetery in K. Kaashidhoo – his home-island.
President of Kaashidhoo Council, Ali Sultan reported to “Sun” this Thursday morning that the funeral held for Haneef was attended by a large number of people.
Haneef’s body was transported to from G. A. Kooddoo Airport to Velana International Airport on a chartered Maldivian plane, and then transported to K. Kaashidhoo last Wednesday night.
