Electronic ankle bracelets have been affixed on five individuals under the MoniCon (Monitor and Control) order, reports Maldives Police Service.
Police spokesperson, Ahmed Shifan provide assurance that five individuals deemed to be a danger to society were being monitored under the MoniCon order.
“Updates will be provided as the orders are executed,” said Shifan.
The police had originally requested MoniCon orders against 16 individuals. The request was later reviewed by the MoniCon Committee which decided to request High Court for MoniCon orders to be issued against only nine of those individuals.
The police had confirmed to the media, earlier, that they requested the High Court for MoniCon orders against nine individuals.
The authority has confirmed that MoniCon orders have now been issued against five individuals, but did not disclose whether MoniCon orders were issued against the remaining four.
Information officer at High Court, Ameen Faisal said the court will not be disclosing any information regarding the MoniCon orders to the media.
