The Japanese government has donated medical equipment worth MVR 14.2 million under their non-project grant.
At a special ceremony held at the Health Ministry today, the donation was presented to the Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim by the Japanese Ambassador to the Maldives, Kazumi Endo.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Nazim said that all the equipment has now been brought to the country and some of them have been sent to the atoll hospitals.
Minister Nazim said that the crowding in the over-populated capital can be reduced by improving the medical services in the atolls.
He said that the government of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom gives priority for the development of the health services.
The non-profit grant of the Japanese government donated medical equipment worth MVR 7.7 million back in 2013 as well. And they also donated equipment worth over MVR 900,000 in April 2017.
