National airline, Maldivian has signed a contract for low-budget flights to transport tourists to the integrated resort being developed in L. Baresdhoo by Maldives Integrated Tourism Development Corporation (MITDC).
MITDC reported Maldivian signed the contract as a Special Travel Airline Partner on October 9.
Managing Director of MITDC, Mohamed Shahid said the corporation partnered with Maldivian to provide low-cost transport as a lot of tourists will be travelling at once to Baresdhoo.
As part of the agreement, tourists will be offered special rates to travel from Velana International Airport to Baresdhoo. Mohamed Shahid said the final rates were under discussion with Maldivian. He said the final rates will be announced within the next three months.
Baresdhoo is being developed to serve 3,000 tourists at any given time. The opportunity is open until October 25 for interested parties which wish to operate restaurants and other businesses to send in their proposals, reports MITDC.
Baresdhoo is a change from the “one island, one resort” concept favored by the Maldivian tourism industry. MITDC reports the integrated tourism resort will be completed within the next 18 months.
